How to Choose the Best WordPress Theme

Which wordpress theme is the best wordpress theme? Thesis? Genesis? Woothemes? No. None of them.

No wordpress theme is the best wordpress theme and the best wordpress theme varies according to the blogger. The best wordpress theme for you must be able to meet your needs in terms of design, speed, clean code, user navigation and wordpress compatibility and the best theme for me might not be the best theme for you. However, before choosing any theme there are several factors you should consider and there are some things you must take note of and look for in a great wordpress theme, this post will be talking about some of those things.

1. The Design

Why in the first place will you want to use a wordpress theme? At least, wordpress has its own default theme, why is everybody not using that?

The design and look of a particular theme is very important when trying to choose a new theme because your wordpress theme should make your blog more presentable and beautiful, not ugly.

It is important to put more effort into getting the best design for your wordpress theme, don’t just go with any theme because they say it supports SEO or because of one feature everybody believe other themes don’t have. If a wordpress theme is not beautiful to you then there is every probability it won’t be beautiful to your readers also. Another advantage of having a theme with a great design is that it can make your content go viral easily, don’t just choose any theme and expect to get the best experience.

2. The Speed

It doesn’t matter how beautiful a theme is, it doesn’t matter how presentable it is, it doesn’t matter what remarks people are giving about it, fast loading is one of the great qualities of a great theme.

When trying to choose a great theme for your blog it is also very important not to think about yourself only but also your readers. Think about what they will benefit from using your theme. Don’t just use a theme because it is working fine with you.

Test your time with various levels of internet connection, if you can’t get access to different types of internet connection you might want to use some online speed testing tools to test it.

Speed is critical when choosing a best wordpress theme because your readers would leave your site if it is taking them ages to access, the faster your site is, the better user experience they get, and the better it is for you.

3. Ease of Access

I once visit a very popular blog which I so much love the content and I wanted to subscribe, however, I couldn’t subscribe because the website didn’t focus on making life easy for the readers but on making more money for the author.

You’re loosing a lot if it is taking your readers ages to locate your subscription options. Make it easy for them to read your content, make it easy for them to subscribe to your blog, make it easy for them to share your content and make sure your website provides for them an overall quality user experience.

As human beings, we easily forget things that are not cooperating with us but we hardly forget what makes life easy for us. The easier you make life for your readers the more difficult it will be for them to forget you.

4. Clean Code

Another important element when it comes to choosing a great wordpress theme is that it should have clean code. What makes a theme work better in terms of SEO is the code. If your theme has a poor code search engines will find it difficult crawling your content and this will eventually lead to more problems for you.

Another importance of having clean code is that it makes things better for your readers (which is what matters most). If you don’t have a clean theme your readers might be experiencing some problems with their browser when trying to access your site.

  1. Nice post, Devesh! I’m something of a premium theme collector. I’ve got Thesis, Genesis, Headway, Frugal, and several from Woo Themes. My #1 favorite and the one I use most often is Thesis, and it’s because of the reasons you said. There are TONS of tutorials for it online, the support community is huge and awesome, and I can get my blogs to look pretty much exactly how I want them!
